# CDO Governance & Maturity Management

> Establish governance that assigns ownership, sets review cadences, and defines a clear promotion path (e.g., Bespoke → Canonical) — ensuring projects transition from ad-hoc or high-frequency bespoke data objects toward standardised, industry-aligned models.


## Activities

1. **Define governance charter.**
   - Document the purpose, scope, and authority of the CDO Governance Board.
   - Outline decision-making processes and escalation paths.
2. **Assign ownership and stewardship.**
   - Create an Ownership Matrix mapping each CDO to a Data Owner, Data Steward, and Business Champion.
   - Define roles and responsibilities for each stakeholder.
3. **Set review cadence and maturity assessment.**
   - Specify frequency for data quality checks, policy reviews, and version updates.
   - Establish maturity criteria for CDOs (e.g., completeness, standardisation, reuse).
   - Schedule regular maturity assessments and track progress.
4. **Define promotion and retirement pathways.**
   - Set criteria for promoting CDOs from Bespoke → Canonical → External Standard (where possible).
   - Document the process for retiring obsolete or redundant CDOs.
5. **Monitor compliance and continuous improvement.**
   - Track adherence to governance policies and standards.
   - Capture lessons learned and feed improvements back into the framework.
   - Report on CDO maturity, quality, and alignment with business goals.
